So Much To See In Vancouver

Vancouver is not just a pass-through on the way to Whistler or other points north. It is a destination worthy of exploration and love. On my first trip to Whistler, I purposely planned a few days before and after the skiing portion of the trip to explore Vancouver, I'm so glad I did. Vancouver proved to be a destination that captured my heart. When I returned to ski at Whistler three years later, I again planned some time in Vancouver. Here are the places most worth exploring in Vancouver, and I know there is so much more I want to see and do.

1. Lynn Canyon
When I was first researching places to hike outside of Vancouver, I found Lynn Canyon and Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. Being a girl on a budget, I opted for the free option, Lynn Canyon. Trip Advisor had good reviews of the park, so that helped to solidify the decision. Besides, for this trip we were relying on public transportation and the park was two bus rides from downtown. You can pay the $40 or so to go see the many suspension bridges in Capilano, but if you want good free hiking, Lynn Canyon is where to head. During the second visit to Vancouver, I again returned to Lynn Canyon and this time I arrived by rental car. Because we weren't on the bus schedule, we explored more trails and found a network of awesomeness. Our goal was to reach a summit point, but we discovered the trail too late and decided to forego the climb to the top for fear of night and blisters from wearing snow shoes and not hiking boots. Here are just a few pictures of the incredible beauty in Lynn Canyon.

2. Grandville Island Public Market

This is a great place to get lost in on a Saturday morning. Plenty of small stands with any kind of food you could want, plus all kinds of fresh produce and bakery items. The tea stand has the best chai tea I've ever had any where. If it weren't such a commute from Pennsylvania, I'd be there every Saturday. My town in Pennsylvania boasts the oldest, continuously operated farmer's market in the U.S., and while I like Central Market, there is something special about the Grandville Market. The stands make an art out of displaying their produce. It's just so fun!

3. Church

That's right, I wrote the word church. It's nice to feel like you are home among people of like faith, even when you are thousands of miles away from your actual home. I discovered Westside Church over 3 years ago, and have enjoyed being an online listener ever since. So when I'm in town, it's a treat to be able to attend in person. On my last visit, I picked up a copy of the Revelations study journal.

4. Steveston Fisherman's Wharf

Before catching the bus to Whistler, we made our way through Richmond to Steveston. This was a delightful way to spend the afternoon. So many little cafes and restaurants along the water. The pictures will do more justice than my words ever could.

5. Stanley Park

Water, a park, a path, greenery, and a sandy shore, this all describes Stanley Park. I only wish I had a bike to cruise around the park. Driving into the park is a little tricky. There seems to be a road, but no idea how it's accessed. We entered from the south and drove not too far into the park when it switched to a one way, no idea how those cars found the access to head south. Regardless of the parking confusion, we did manage to find a place to park the car and wander through the park. There is also public transit available into the park.
