Day 3 - Follow the coast

Day 3 - Melbourne Beach to Stuart - 72 miles - Elevation gain: 1.5 bridges

It finally feels like proper Florida weather! I ditched the multiple layers! We left Melbourne Beach at 9am and the temps quickly climbed to the mid-50s. Our route took us down the coast for more views of large homes. The distinction between a million and multi-million is very evident in several of the areas we have biked through so far. From large homes to protected areas with natural vegetation, the scenery is amazing!

As we made our way from the barrier island inland, we hugged the coast and caught more glorious views of the water. No alligator sightings yet, but we are hopeful to see at least one. We spotted pelicans today, and several other birds. A few people saw doulphins. I saw a snake yesterday, but I didn’t stop to identify it (no need to get acquainted).

These warmer temps have everyone feeling great and continuing to tack on the miles. I was able to capture a few more pictures because I had on normal gloves and I wasn’t wearing a jacket.

When we got to the hotel a few of us jumped in the pool. It was slightly warmer than the air temperature, but not by much. It felt great to be able to soak and that it was even warm enough to want to swim. Another highlight of the day was seeing the launch of the SpaceX rocket as it made it’s way through the atmosphere. We are on to more cool sightings tomorrow!
